Default Halo 3 Single Player

There has been a lot of talk about Halo 3 multiplayer recently, and with the beta almost fully out, is anyone else excited about single player more than they are anything else? The multiplayer beta is nice and does give a first glimpse at what the gameplay will be like but that's nothing compared to what will be in single player mode. With Bungie currently being tight lipped about the rest of the game I guess I just have to wait.

Yup, three more days and we'll know what's up for the multiplayer....and maybe, just maybe, we'll see what's going on with single player before it drops on the shelves.

Well...I was not so impressed with the single player as I was with the multiplayer on Halo 2. The original was awesome because it stood up on its feet with the single player, but Halo 2 shined with the awesome multiplayer execution.

So in conclusion: I'm not as excited about the single player as I am the multiplayer. But that's not to say that if they do a kickass job with it I won't change my tune.

They're probably keeping quiet about the single player for Halo 3 for the same reason they kept quiet about it for Halo 2: it sucks. Well, maybe not sucks, per se, but It was incredibly disappointing considering the ambitious things they had going for it (i.e. Arbiter). I beat it in a few days and had no desire to keep playing (a far cry from the original, which I played for at least a year). I was especially annoyed with how sloppy Halo 2's multiplayer maps were compared to the original. Halo 3 can be great but this time, I'm not going to wait outside on launch night to find out.

Explain about the "sloppy" maps on Halo 2. I'm curious as to what you mean by that.

Well, I'm sure it's not something most people took issue with but Halo 1's maps were just more...shall I say, symmetrical. And I liked that a lot about them. I just didn't care for levels like Zanzibar, which would feature completely different terrains for the bases (and what's with that annoying turbine thing?). Also, in other maps, like Burial Mounds, one base would be a lot easier to defend than the other and it seemed to screw with the balance a bit (at least back when I was playing it). I could see how someone would think it expertly simulates an actual warzone since, you know, never do both sides have equal quality cover to hide behind. Perhaps this will help explain it: Sidewinder is by far and away my favorite Halo map ever.
