This rumor is really interesting: "$600 jet-black Xbox 360 with a built-in HD-DVD drive, an HDMI A/V port, a 250GB hard drive and PVR functionality(with Xbox Live/DirecTV)." Seems like they are trying to do the same thing Sony is doing with the PS3, just load it with technology.

That would be cool, but for me if they are not going to use the HDDVD for games, I don't want or need it! With a 250GB and the other stuff,$600, would be a good deal,though!.......Probably just a rumor.

Yesterday, several publications reported a Consumer Electronics Daily newsletter from Warren News in which Dave A. Luehmann, a general manager within Microsoft Game Studios, was quoted supposedly saying that “Microsoft hasn't determined yet whether to do Xbox 360 games in HD DVD”.

This was enough for several sites to report the rumor of Xbox 360 games coming in HD DVD format. Luckily, Microsoft reacted quite quickly to deny this irrational rumor.

"I'm seeing lots of speculation about our upcoming HD DVD Player, and whether we have plans to publish HD DVD games. The answer is no." ; John Porcaro, a Microsoft employee and member of the Xbox Global Marketing team, explained in the team’s Gamerscore blog.

Porcaro added: "Since announcing the Xbox 360 HD DVD Player accessory at E3 2006, it’s been clear that it is designed exclusively for playing HD DVD movies. It will not play games on HD DVD."

Par for the course, I s'pose. Ever since downloadable demos appeared on XBox Live, there's really no need for the magazine anymore since that's all it was worth anyway (mind you, I'm not saying that charging 10 bucks for it was actually worth it).

It's not like the content was ever worth anything to begin with, that's for sure. But then again, I stopped buying their magazine pretty early on, anyway. I mean, being a multisystem owner, I don't quite appreciate spending 10 dollars and being subjected to insults from the magazine writers for owning said consoles or having to see fanboyish charts depicting how many ways they believe the XBox to be a better gaming machine. Pretty childish crap, I must say.

Hopefully demos on Live will do for the magazine what should have been done a long time ago: kill it.

I agree; although it would be the same if you read a magazine like PSM. They're biased too, any one console magazine is bound to. I myself have started to head to the Computer for more of my gaming, especially with Gmod 10 coming out soon.

Nah. Dave Halverson isn't biased. He's just a grumpy oldschool gamer. That's why I like Play magazine- because I am, too.

As for other official mags they're not ANYWHERE near as bad as OXM is (or at least was when I was reading it regularly). Nintendo Power just does their thing and that's that. I think I've seen once or twice in my entire time reading that magazine where they made a comment towards another system brand and only once could it have been construed as negative (and, in their defense, it was pretty much just a turn around to what another mag said about them).

PSM acknowledges the existence of other consoles and will even make a comment here and there towards them, but nothing even close to how bad OXM was. OXM was like going to some XBox fanboy messageboard (which, I'm guessing, is how the team won their bid for the official mag. Wouldn't surprise me if that's EXACTLY what MS was looking for in an official mag staff).
