Flash memory huh? But, that strengthens my point. Look how long it has taken for THAT technology to start making a HDD obsolete.

It's only a matter of capacity. The reason it hasn't replaced it yet is because they're still trying to match the capacity that disk-based storage can do (which is over 1TB now for a single disk). Once they master the capacity, it's all over for disk-based storage. No moving parts, less protocol restrictions, faster read/write times, etc.

I'm really surprised that "they" haven't overcome the storage amount problem yet. I've noticed an increase in SD type flash and it would only be logical that a bigger memory "stick" would have a larger capacity. The small SD can hold up to, what is it currently... I think 4 gigs? and that's a small flash card. So why doesn't a flash card that is similar in size (or slightly smaller) to a HDD have OVER the capacity of a terabyte HDD? I'm sure there is more to it than that, it just makes me wonder. I look at my 2 gig tiny ass flash card and the logic that something physically larger should be able to hold more... of course, with technology, it isn't always true -- but seems to make sense at least with the flash memory. I dunno.

Anyway, I understand your point; and it's valid, but I really do think that it will be quite awhile before our current (DVD, all types) medium is "obsolete".

Well it seems like Blue-Ray is the winner here, but we still have to wait to the masses take to it!

Blu-ray isn't exactly winning just yet. I'd give it another six months, once the 360's hard drive update, and the add on HD DVD player becomes more available and more promoted. We'll see.

Blu-Ray definitely seems to have the momentum as of right now though. I'd prefer that HD-DVD comes out to crush it though just because it's Sony.

Yup, like you said Paul, it's only momentum... not outright sales. But, the possibility is there that blu-ray will outsell; it's all up to microsoft and their promotion tactics...Which hasn't been crap so far.

I'm rooting for HD-DVD. Mainly because 1) they're cheaper than Blu-Ray and 2) They have the support of Universal Studios, which is my favorite film studio ever.

Well, if Walmart takes sides (which is in the "news") and chooses HD-DVD format over blu-ray, I'd say you'd most likely get your wish.
