Analyst: "I Cannot Now Imagine a PlayStation 4"

Sony Corp. has decided to name Kaz Hirai, head of the U.S. game division, as president of Sony Computer Entertainment, while naming Ken Kutaragi chairman of the division. Although the father of the PlayStation has been promoted, he has been removed from day-to-day management.

Analysts told the The Financial Times that Mr Hirai could mark a critical shift in management thinking, with Sony changing its emphasis so that the Playstation 3 will be its last as a hardware manufacturer.

"The appointment of Hirai could be the start of a shift from hardware to software," said Yuta Sakurai, an analyst at Nomura. "I cannot now imagine a PlayStation 4."

Even with all these troubles for Sony Computer Entertainment, analysts think that the weakness of the Yen against other currencies could save the PlayStation maker from the expected four year of losses the new console will incur into.

One thing worth mentioning is that all these analysts forgot that Sony could still make the division profitable by making grill machines
