Re: Former Working Designs President Forms Gaijinworks Albert Oddysey had a few truly horrible moments in it- Vic is always at his worst when there are major story points happening and he starts throwing out the bad jokes right in the middle of it. Too bad, really. I was actually very impressed with the game and, mind you, I started playing it right after I finished FFIII on the SNES. It stood up rather well to that other than Vic's "treachery".
I dont know about Vanguard Bandits, but I've heard that he absolutely slaughtered Popful Mail (I've only played a tiny bit of that, so I don't have firsthand experience on that one).
But aside from all that, whatever Vic has planned for this upcoming generation of consoles, he best get the ball rolling and get to talking about it soon. For many of us, over the last five years, WD and Vic has gone from premier RPG publisher to faded memory. You can thank the stepping up of Atlus and stepping in of NIS for that. Now there's two companies who have really come into their own and quite handily filled that void that WD has left us since late in the 32bit era (about the time of the Arc the Lad collection debacle and beyond). If he doesn't do something REAL soon, it's going to be "Vic WHO? Oh yeah....I remember that guy and his company from way back when. I wonder whatever happened to them. Oh well."
Fun fact: When Lunar for the DS was picked up by Ubisoft for release outside Japan, Vic Ireland called Ubisoft and offered to handle the translation part of the localization process. It's sad, but pretty telltale, that they turned him down, seeing as how bad the translation ended up being.
But then anyone who is familiar with WD is full aware that had they taken him up on that offer, the game probably STILL wouldn't have made it to store shelves yet. |
