Default No HD for Revolution

Nintendo upsets tech-savy gamers in an attempt to keep system price low.

That's right- the Nintendo Revolution will not jump on the HD bandwagon. According to Nintendo's Perrin Kaplan, the upcoming system will still sport beautiful graphics, though the focus will be on excellent games- not the amount of polygons that can be packed into a title. Though this is disappointing to many tech-heads, the lack of high definition does mean a cheaper retail cost for the system, a cheaper cost for developers and no fear of drop in framerate. Read on for Nintendo's official comments.

“It is accurate that at this time we will not support high-definition [on Revolution],"
Kaplan told IGN.com.

"Nintendo's Revolution is being built with a variety of gamers' needs in mind, such as quick start-up time, high power, and ease of use for development and play. It’s also compact and sleek, and has beautiful graphics in which to enjoy innovative games,"
Kaplan says. "Nintendo doesn't plan for the system to be HD compatible as with that comes a higher price for both the consumer and also the developer creating the game. Will it make the game better to play? With the technology being built into the Revolution, we believe the games will look brilliant and play brilliantly. This can all be done without HD."

"Companies focused on outdoing each other for technology's sake are using the power of public relations to confuse the media into thinking high-definition is a live-or-die part of the games of the future,"
says Kaplan. "It is a technological fact that games will still look incredibly beautiful and play incredibly well without the high cost of making them HD compatible. HD may be one of the technologies of the future. Is it the gaming industry's only future? We don't think so."

Yeah I hear about this, it sucks! I hope they add some other cool feature to the REV to make up for the HD.

Err... not like HD's a MUST-HAVE-FEATURE! I could totally live without it! In fact, I can sleep easier knowing that Nintendo isn't kicking up the price for some crap I don't use... I have a huge-ass Sony projection TV and that's good enough for me!

Also, I'm sure Nintendo has something else up their sleeve to make up for it

HD and games tend not to work well...and it costs a lot more. It works for TV much better because with video games backgrounds have different resolutions then the characters
