Default Worms on DS and PSP

THQ announced last week an agreement with Team17 to publish Worms on the PSP portable entertainment system and the Nintendo DS. Retaining the same award-winning gameplay and unique sense of humour that has epitomised the brand for almost a decade, Worms brings a whole raft of new features and laugh-out-loud comedy to the next generation of handheld entertainment.

Spadge, one of Team17's moderators on the company's forums, confirmed the following facts:

Both the PSP and DS editions will feature classic Worms gameplay - as vociferously requested by fans. Both versions have been in development for some time, news on release dates will follow much later in the year.

Both platforms feature ad-hoc wireless play and of course, hot-seat play as well as single player games that suit the play patterns of the devices. I.e. short bursts.

The DS will feature touch-screen use; planned to be finger rather than stylus control to make it better for hot-seat situations. The touch screen will be used for map scrolling, weapon controls and stats.

The gamecode is all new for both editions and not a port of earlier 2d games.

A 3d version of Worms is not currently planned for these devices, for both technical and play-factor reasons bearing in mind their screen resolution and suitability to the original 2d game mechanics.

Further information will be released by the global publisher, THQ in future.

Sounds pretty cool, if I had a PSP or DS I would probably pick this up when it comes out. I always liked that rope that you could swing around on and the airstrikes are cool too, but when you prod someone off the edge... that is the best

Ah. Worms will do much better on the DS, as far as gameplay features. Touch screen could bring a whole new level to it. That would be awesome.

I agree. Maybe something along the lines of using your touch screen to control the power of the shot or controlling your super sheep.

Pached, man, you're mentioning sheep way too many times...

...you sure you're not from New Zealand?

Or Montana?

"Montana. Where the men are men, and the sheep are scared."

Nah, I'm from New York. We don't have sheep around here unless it's at the petting zoo . The super sheep was my favorite weapon, which explains why I mention it so much . Ah the good ol' days of blowing up worms with a sheep wearing a cape...
