There's new power up's like the giant mushroom that makes you super big and you go tromping through the level smashing everything in site and stomping pipes down in some cases and breaking them in others. There's the mini mushroom that makes you super tiny so you can go in small area's and run on water. Lastly (of the new powers up's) there's the Blue Koopa Shell which lets Mario transform into Shell Mario so he can smash through enemies and blocks like a Koopa would and also swim more quickly underwater.
Mario can double and triple jump now like he did the Mario 64 and he can also wall jump too.
The level design is awesome and from what I've played of it, it's awesome. I totally recommend this game to anyone, it rock. Get it!

If I don't buy it, I'll be playing yours next time I'm over.

Well, if you didn't like any of the other Mario's I don't see how this will change your opinion. Yeah, you can become giant and smash everything in sight, but you have to get the giant mushroom to do it. It's still a Mario game dude, so don't go expecting something way new.

Mario is too established in that realm to be of real interest. I like the stuff like Astro Boy and Gunstar Superheros that's a bit more fast-paced.
For Mario, I've moved on with the industry. That's not to say that I don't appreciate those games and/or played the hell out of 'em. I am, however, looking forward to the new Super Mario that's coming to the Wii.

But moved on to what- the same dang crap games regurgitated 100 times until they've killed it and no one wants it anymore? Even though they rely way too much on their franchises, at least the Mario games (and most other Nintendo offerings) have been moving forward, unlike the rest of the industry that has "moved on".

Yeah, you'd like it because you're into cool games (not like that guy Roger) you know what's cool.
Seriously Kel, it's a lot of fun, and since you liked Mario Land I can pretty much guarantee you'll like this one too. ^_^

We all know there's a lot of remakes out there.

The game is really sweet, by the way. As far as sidescroller Mario games go, my hierarchy has been Super Mario World>>>>SMB 3>>>>>>>>>>SMB 2>> SMB.
This new one fits somewhere around the level of Super Mario Bros. 3 for me. It's kind of like a weird hybrid of SMB 3 and World with a callback to the original, mostly for looks (no doubt to get people who played the original to see it and go "Hey!! I know that!!!" and then try it, finding a whole new game).
Unfortunately, it's not all that hard, but it does have a fair amount of secrets and not all of them are just pushed right under your nose. Heck, on some levels, you have to come into the level with a certain powerup rather than having it on the level and making it obvious what you have to do. That's a bit un-Mariolike, because usually you can tell what you have to do since the stuff you need is right there. One other bummer is there's no Star World type secret area. Something blistering hard would have really been welcome here.
I'm sure you'll start seeing people doing speed runs in no time flat. True to form (well, at least SMB 1, 2, and 3 form), you can find warps that will quickly push you way forward in the game. Just in what I've found, I'd be willing to bet if everything presents itself perfectly (since there's some randomness since the powerups to get the secrets aren't right there on the level they're needed), the game can probably be run through in 15-30 minutes.
I want to find all the secret worlds first though, before I start messing with that crap.

I like playing games that are fun and offer a bit of a challenge, especially puzzle like challenges, (i.e. Klonoa and Trace Memory). I also like that you have to enter a certain level already with the right powerup.
