Default Castlevania-Death Race buzz

June 28, 2006 - IGN FilmForce paid a visit this week to the Mexico set of Resident Evil: Extinction where, in-between talking about the third installment of the videogame-to-film franchise, producer Jeremy Bolt revealed what's happening with two of Evil producer Paul W.S. Anderson's future projects.

The first is the long-in-development remake of Death Race 2000 and the other is the big-screen adaptation of the videogame Castlevania. Death Race is set-up at Paramount with Bolt and Anderson's Impact Pictures producing along with Tom Cruise's Cruise-Wagner Prods. Castlevania is a Crystal Sky Entertainment production in association with Dimension Films and Konami.

Bolt insists that Death Race is now closer to happening than it ever has been before. "Paul came in and wrote a script, got it a lot closer, and I think we should be making an announcement in the next two or three weeks."

The producer also says the tone of the remake will differ from that of the original film. "We've basically taken the idea of reality television and extended it twenty years. So it's definitely a comment on society, and particularly reality television, but it is not as much a parody or a satire as the original. It's more straight."

And might there be any chance that the original film's star Sylvester Stallone could return for the remake? "That would be great. We talk about it a lot," Bolt said, adding that the film's other star, David Carradine, "is a little old now [for it]."

As for Castlevania, Bolt says, "We're trying to do is integrate a Dracula origin story with Castlevania, with the story of the Belmonts." Bolt added that the film will reference back to the earlier versions of the game, as well as the new incarnation of Castlevania.

"There's a fair amount of references. We always try to give the fans something that respects their love of the game but also give them something completely new. So we've added a whole new spin to Castlevania."

Gamers take note: Bolt said that "the whip is in it at the moment."

Personally I think Paul W.S Anderson is the big budget version of Uwe "toilet bowl"Boll, both of these guys need to go away! But anderson makes alot of money for the big movie companies,so that is unlikely

As soon as he said: "a whole new spin to Castlevania", I groaned aloud... Another game-to-movie ruined...
