Default Blue-Ray vs. HD-DVD

This is obviously a pretty big debate at the moment, so I just wanted to see what you guys thought about it.

I honestly don't know that much about it, but it seems like Blue-Ray has a lot more backing and a bigger (filesize) format, but HD-DVD might have better quality somehow? It seems like in the end both formats are going to be widely used, but right now I really have no clue which one will turn out to be better.

I just listened to Major Nelson's podcast and he had an interview with some guys at Microsoft that are working on the HD-DVD (or something like that, digital media I think he said) and there is a lot of usefull info there, but it seemed pretty one sided since that is their job, so I don't know. Here is the link if you want to listen to it, it's pretty long:

Anyway, just wanted to see what you guys thought about it!

Sadly, I'm behind Blu-Ray. I may not like Sony or their tactics, but if used as double-sided disc they could nearly store someone's entire (small) collection of Xbox games. This would also mean that future PS3 games could use uncompressed, rich-parallax texture mapping. Meaning: A lot of photo-realistic textures could be stored on the disc for ALL purposes.

HD-DVD's limited disc-storage in comparison to the Blu-Ray makes it look weak. But aside from extensive media storage purposes, I've yet to hear anyone say if Blu-Ray has a faster access time than HD-DVD.

I still haven't gotten to listen to Major's newest podcast, so this is just based on what I've heard.

Right now, HD-DVD's have better quality because the codec used to display videos is better than what Sony has allowed other companies to use. And even though Blu-Ray can output at 1080p to HD-DVD's 1080i, Blu-Ray currently converts 1080p to 1080i, then upscales back to 1080p.

And also, currently based on what's available, the HD-DVD does have a higher capacity than Blu-Ray, though that will be quick to change since the technology lends itself more to higher storage spaces with Blu-Ray.

I would be behind Blu-Ray except for the fact that is it coming from Sony, who has not really successfuly introduced a new format. They lost to VHS even though Sony's product was technically better, and the same was the case with the minidisk player.
