Starting back in 2004, VGcore began as an Xbox only website under the name of Xbox Core. In early 2006 Xbox Core branched out with the opening of PlaystationCore.com. Playstation Core featured the latest Playstation reviews and game content. In August of 2006, everything was pulled together under one site and name: VGcore. At the opening of VGcore.com, VGcore provided game content on the following systems: PC, Playstation 3, Playstation Portable, Playstation 2, Xbox 360, Xbox Live, Xbox, Nintendo Wii, Gamecube, and Nintendo DS.

VGcore's backend coding and design was done by the site's owner, Lee Tomko. The daily top of the line content featured on VGcore is provided by the VGcore Staff Team, many of which have been with the site since the start of Xbox Core.

VGcore plans to provide quality video game content, at a free price, for years and years to come.
